A scientist by training and public servant by profession, Debbie Raphael has spent 20 years in public service working to develop public policy and programs that protect human health and the environment. Debbie also served under Governor Jerry Brown as the Director of the Department of Toxic Substances Control, where she implemented the landmark Green Chemistry Initiative. She is currently the Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment and believes that cities can take bold action to address climate change. As Director, Debbie works in close collaboration with other City agencies to implement San Francisco’s Climate Action Strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% from 1990 levels by 2050.
