We've got an ant problem in our office. How do we avoid spraying?
According to Megan Kemple, Public Education Coordinator for the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides, says ants are attracted to a variety of different foods. Thorough daily cleaning of your office is essential. Keep your office kitchen, lunchroom, and office spaces as free of food as possible. Keep food in the fridge or in tightly sealed containers and rinse food and beverage containers before they go in the garbage or recycling.
Having the garbage or recycling taken out more often may help. Dirty dishes in the sink may attract ants, too.
Ants sometimes nest in potted plants. If you find ants in your plants, take the plant outside and submerge for 20 minutes in standing water. The ants should crawl out. Sealing entryways and replacing rotten wood are other more involved projects, which can help prevent ant infestations.
