I've heard many people say that recycling "isn't worth it" because it takes too much energy for items to get to recycling plants.

British supermarket Tesco has found a way to silence these naysayers with an in-store recycling machine that crushes waste.

The TOMRA recycling machines, which have already been introduced in Tesco stores across the country, recycle aluminum, steel, plastics, and glass.

Since consumers generally make weekly grocery trips, the TOMRA machines save on carbon emissions that would normally be used to get items to recycling plants.

And just in case shoppers need an extra incentive, Tesco gives Clubcard points to patrons who use the recycling units.

Tesco's machines are part of a larger company plan to reduce packaging and food waste by 2010.
