Wal-Mart has talked a lot about being green recently, but they've overlooked one major problem— jewelry available at the retailer contains high levels of lead.

A recent study conducted by The Center for Environmental Health showed that jewelry sold at Wal-Mart, Express, Lane Bryant, Longs Drugs, Anchor Blue, Banana Republic, and Abercrombie and Fitch violates California's Prop 65 consumer protection law.

In its study of 32 jewelry retailers, the CEH found 14 product samples containing over 50 percent lead. 

Longs Drugs had the most tainted jewelry, with 13 of the 14 highest lead content products available at the store. The jewelry includes many items often worn by teenagers and young girls.

Lead can damage nervous connections, cause blood and brain disorders, and lead to cancer and reproductive issues.
