Living in burrito-rich San Francisco, I rarely find it necessary to visit Chipotle Mexican Grill. However, those unfortunate souls who don't live in my neck of the woods will soon be able to feel good about their choice to visit the chain.
Chipotle announced last week that it is partnering with HAVI/Perseco to supply sustainable bio-based plastics from Cereplast, Inc.
While the chain will initially use the green cutlery in its Millbrae, CA location, Cereplast's product may be rolled out in all 800 Chipotle restaurants in the near future.
Chipotle's partnership with Cereplast is not the first green initiative for the company—in October, Chipotle built an on-site wind turbine to power its Gurnee, IL location.
The company was also named one of SB20's Green Pioneers of 2008 for serving locally sourced produce and free-range meat.
