The California Department of Toxic Substances Control has set up a wiki as one way to gather public input as it begins to evaluate chemicals of concern.

The wiki was set up as part of the state's Green Chemistry Initiative. Some parts of that program have already been put into motion with legislation, with one law giving the state the ability to identify and prioritize chemicals of concern, examine alternatives and regulate chemicals.

The department's wiki is intended to gather public opinion related chemicals, assessment of alternatives, using lifecycle analysis and when the state should ban chemicals, restrict them, require labeling or take other regulatory action.

Information gathered on the wiki will also be used to jumpstart discussions at public workshops on the Green Chemistry Initiative.
