Constellation Place, LLC and Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will unveil a photovoltaic solar system on top of the MGM Tower's parking structure tomorrow afternoon. The system will be the third largest in Los Angeles, and will significantly reduce energy costs for the building.

The MGM Tower is also LEED Silver certified as of July 2008.

By 2020, Mayor Villaraigosa hopes that the city will get 10 percent of its energy from the sun. The mayor's plan, dubbed "Solar LA", sets aside $313 million for incentives to encourage rooftop solar installations. LA also plans on subsiding solar installations for some low-income homes.

Additionally, the city will purchase 500MW of solar power from utilities by 2020.
