Keep Britain Tidy designated McDonald's today as the most littered fast food brand in the country, with burger wrappers, condiment sachets, and plastic straws named as the most commonly littered items .
The findings are based on a two-day survey of ten city centers and suburbs, including Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, and London.
But McDonald's isn't the only guilty brand. Keep Britain Tidy also found numerous pieces of litter from unbranded fish and chip/kebab shops, Greggs, KFC, and Subway.
It's hard to blame fast food chains for what happens to their packaging off-site, but Keep Britain Tidy suggests that brands reduce unnecessary packaging, do more to encourage recycling bin use, increase anti-litter signage, and offer incentives for customers to return packaging. And of course, companies can always work with Keep Britain Tidy to minimize litter.
