In an effort to increase transparency about its business practices, Kellogg Company has released its first global Corporate Responsibility Report. The report examines Kellogg's progress and future plans for the environment, marketplace, workplace, and community.
The company has set lofty environmental goals: by 2015, Kellogg's expects 15 to 20 percent reductions in energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and waste per metric ton of food produced.
Kellogg's also plans on exploring ways to support sustainable agriculture.
Other goals indicated in the report include responsible food sourcing, more donations to charitable organizations, and more learning and development opportunities for employees.
As the world's leading producer of cereal, Kellogg's sets an example for many corporations. Hopefully, others will follow Kellogg's lead and embrace similar practices.

Congratulations to Kellogg.
Congratulations to Kellogg. It’s great to see large corporations taking these positive steps toward emissions reduction. Where they lead, hopefully others will follow. A great resource for information on establishing your organization’s baseline carbon footprint is www.csa.ca/carbonperformance.
A good start
This is great news, and hopefully many more companies will follow suit. Even if a company is not doing so hot in the corporate responsibility arena, the first step is - as Kellogg is doing - embracing transparency. This is a show of genuine concern and desire to be a responsible corporate citizen.
I read this report a few
I read this report a few days ago, and I was impressed, too. I particularly liked how Kellogg recognizes that corporate responsibility issues require strategic management that spans multiple stages of the value chain. Plus, it makes sense to me that the company would have 'lofty' environmental goals. Kellogg is dependent on agricultural inputs, and there's no doubt that climate change will impact the availability of agricultural commodities and water.
