Next month, Staples will become the first national retailer to reward customers for recycling any brand of ink or toner cartridge.
The office supply company will give patrons $3 in Staples Rewards for recycling cartridges instead of throwing them away. Staples expects to recycle 30 million cartridges in 2009 and become the world's largest ink and toner recycler as a result of its new program.
Customers can bring up to 10 cartridges per month in exchange for Staples Rewards, which can be used for any Staples purchase. Rewards are given out monthly
Staples' new recycling program isn't the first for the company—in 2008, Staples recycled 4 million pounds of electronic waste. The store's current recycling programs include cell phones, PDAs, computers, and office technology.

This is NOT a program expansion
Please notice that Staples has been promoting this to look like it’s now an all-encompassing program and is very subtly inserting the detail that you can now ONLY EARN MONEY ON TEN INKJETS A MONTH. Whereas before a school could earn around $270 (3 per day) per month, now Staples is limiting them to $30.
Everyone has taken the Staples press release hook, line and sinker without noticing that Staples is actually not expanding the program at all. It is drastically cutting the monthly value that people can earn at Staples.
Staples to reward customers for recycling...
wow, wish I knew about this a few weeks ago...
