Pitney Bowes announced today that it recovered close to 1.1 million pounds of equipment and components last year in the US for reuse, recycling, and remanufacture.
The company's take-back program has been around for over 50 years, and has diverted millions of pounds of waste from the dumpster.
The initiative, which is an excellent example for other technology companies to follow, requires that customers return their postal meters and mailing machines to distribution centers located across the US.
Pitney Bowes is also a member of the US Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise program, which aids companies in reducing solid and industrial waste. In 2007, the company was inducted into the WasteWise hall of fame for its recycling efforts.
