Basketball is getting a little bit greener with news from the NBA earlier this week that alternative energy credits will offset power use at the Phoenix, Arizona All-Star game.

According to an official from the Phoenix Suns, the credits will cover the equivalent of 1,500 megawatt hours of power—100 times the amount of energy used each year by an average home in Arizona.

The Phoenix Suns are launching other environmental initiatives as well. The team plans on starring in a green public service announcement, and the Phoenix Convention Center will install solar panels in July. Additionally, the Suns have been recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans since December.

Whether the team's efforts will pay off publicity-wise remains to be seen, but at the very least the Suns will be looked upon favorably by the environmental community.
