A survey by Retrevo, a "matchmaker for people and electronics," found that buying energy efficient products is important to consumers, though few would pay much of a premium for green products.

Considering the Gadgetology survey was conducted just this month, it's fair to assume many people aren't willing to pay much of a premium or regular prices for anything - even food - these days.

Retrevo's survey of 632 people found that 76 percent said buying energy efficient products is important, very important or extremely important.

Although that finding falls in line with the trend of "green consumer" surveys painting a rosy outlook for green products, 75 percent also said they would pay a 10 percent or lower premium, 50 percent would pay 5 percent or lower, and 35 percent would pay no premium at all for greener products.

When consumer products like computers, monitors and TVs do have greener features, though, that's usually not the sole reason they carry a higher price, and relatively few are marketed on their green credentials alone.
