Observations from Davos

<p>As the World Economic Forum convenes in Davos, Switzerland, the president of Akamai offers a look at the first day and his takeaways from the results of Edelman's 2011 Trust Barometer -- the annual survey of attitudes about business, government, NGOs and media in 23 countries.</p>

This morning, I attended the 11th annual Edelman Trust Barometer. The interesting news is that technology companies are the most respected companies in the world today.

After getting into the data, it became clear that society is really counting on technology companies to invent solutions to the threats and problems faced by humanity.

And of course, the depletion of energy and destruction of our planet is perhaps the biggest problem we face.

So this first session at Davos has me keenly focused on new technology for new energy solutions and later discussions with top execs at HP, Infosys, Accenture and others confirmed to me that some of the best technology minds in world are focused on tech solutions to the energy problem -- I have confidence that these solutions are coming.
