In Ontario, like elsewhere in Europe and the U.S., there is growing political and public support for using "Green Energy" to create and power a new "Green Economy". Accordingly, increasing the number and scope of renewable energy projects has become a key focus for government officials, electric utilities, and key stakeholders alike. There are various policies and incentives that have been used around the world to spur renewable energy project development, perhaps none more successful than Feed-In Tariffs (FiTs). This conference will conduct an in-depth analysis of Ontario’s newly implemented FiT, as well as examine sample FiTs from Germany, and Gainesville, Florida. It will analyze the major policy shifts associated with Ontario's FiT, and the new processes to be navigated in facilitating renewable development. Also, it will compare and contrast the various FiTs, provide insights into different FiT policy designs, and discuss key issues to consider when creating and implementing a FiT. Finally, it will provide advice regarding how to take advantage of FiTs to increase green energy development and stimulate a growing green economy.
