In July, Walmart announced the formation of the Sustainability Consortium, a group of academics and others with the ambitious agenda of "establishing the scientific standards to measure the sustainability of consumer products." The consortium, headquartered at the University of Arkansas and Arizona State University, is now an independent organization funded in part by membership from some of the world’s leading brands. Its mission includes creating "scientifically valid and coherent product indexes that will allow retailers to compare consumer products."
What is the Consortium actually doing? How will its work be used? What role will its members play in creating the green standards by which products will be evaluated in the future?
At this unprecedented 90-minute webinar, the Consortium’s co-chairs will provide an up-to-date accounting of its activities, describe where the group is headed, and answer your questions. You’ll learn:
- How the Consortium is structured and governed, and who is influencing its decisions
- The influence of Walmart relative to other member companies and stakeholders
- How the Consortium’s work will be used in the marketplace
- What product categories the group will be working to develop standards over the coming year
- How your company can get involved, and how it should be preparing for the Consortium’s outcomes
Please join GreenBiz.com Executive Editor Joel Makower in conversation with, the Sustainability Consortium co-chairs:
- Dr. Jay S. Golden, School of Sustainability, Barrett Honors Faculty, Arizona State University
- Dr. Jon Johnson, Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas
