Greener by Design Highlights

At Greener by Design, the first annual conference created by GreenBiz.com and Global Executive, we brought together dozens of leading business experts on design and innovation to discuss the ways that green practices are shaping their products, services and operations.

Whether it's the leader of Nike's Considered products explaining how their designers make green ideas happen, young innovators discussing the ways to build a green product from the ground up, or designers themselves sharing how their clients' needs are changing to address environmental impact.

This video provides a short overview of the highlights from our two-day conference in June; check GreenBizTV for more videos from the event.

Greener by Design: Meet the Designers

At Greener by Design, the first annual conference created by GreenBiz.com and Global Executive, we brought together dozens of leading business experts on design and innovation to discuss the ways that green practices are shaping their products, services and operations.

In this video, GreenBiz.com executive editor Joel Makower sat down with designers from four innovative firms -- Chris Hammond from Kaleidoscope, Aidan Petrie of the Item Group, Clark Scheffy from IDEO, and Eric Wilmot from frog design -- to talk about how green design has changed their jobs, their interactions with clients, and what the future of design for the environment holds.

Greener by Design: The Digital Design Revolution

Software, hardware, computing power -- the modern-day cogs of our economy have transformed most sectors, and that includes design. Increasingly, the leaders in information technology are creating tools and technologies to help designers more effectively integrate environmental thinking into their operations.

In this clip from our panel at Greener by Design 2008, Dawn Danby, a sustainable design consultant at Autodesk, and Michael Murphy, Dell's Senior Manager for Worldwide Environmental Affairs, talk with Terry Swack about the tools that designers are taking advantage of to design the greenest possible products -- and to make the design process itself even greener.

Greener by Design: The Young innovators

For years, start-ups have helped to change the game in many sectors with innovation, and by being bold and audacious. Here, leading young innovators describe how they reinvent products, marketing, and business models to push the limits of environmental performance.

In this panel from Greener by Design, we brought together Steve Davies from NatureWorks, Joshua Handy from Method and Miranda Magagnini from IceStone to discuss the benefits and challenges of starting a new company from a green foundation and what opportunities are out there for startups in the green marketplace.

Greener by Design: Transformations

In this final highlight video from our green design conference, sustainability leaders from three large and innovative companies discuss the ways thinking green has transformed their products.

We'll hear from Dawn Rittenhouse, the director of sustainability for Dupont; Lorrie Vogel, who is the general manager of Nike's Considered products; and Patricia Calkins, the vice president of sustainability at Xerox.

After you watch the video, be sure to check out GreenerDesign.com's Innovation section for more examples of how green is changing the products we use.
