ATLANTA, Fa. — At the recent conference of the National Association of Home Builders, Owens Corning announced that its line of fiber glass insulation products has been independently certified to contain an average of 35% recycled content. The new certification -- representing a 5% increase over the previous certification level -- means Owens Corning's fiber glass insulation has the highest recycled content in North America.

Third-party certifier Scientific Certification Systems approved the certification of Owens Corning's signature Pink fiber glass insulation, as well as the company's commercial fiber glass products, only after a rigorous four-step process that included a comprehensive audit of the company's claims, including visits to manufacturing facilities to see the process and interview plant personnel. This recognition by SCS assures building professionals using Owens Corning fiber glass insulation of the recycled content in order to achieve LEED certification and meet other green building guidelines, an increasingly critical measurement used in sustainable building.

"While the previous recycled content level of our fiber glass insulation products already led the industry, we seized the opportunity to further raise the bar with a move to 35% to demonstrate our commitment to green building and sustainability in our own manufacturing processes," said Gale Tedhams, product manager, Owens Corning Residential Insulation. The 35% post-industrial and post-consumer content in the company's fiber glass products is made possible by enhancements in the Owens Corning manufacturing process that utilize more waste glass from additional sources.
