U.C. Davis Launches Green Tech Boot Camp

OAKLAND, Calif. — The University of California at Davis wants to help researchers move their work work on sustainable technologies from the lab to the marketplace.

The school's Center for Entrepreneurship is now taking applications for its second annual Green Technology Entrepreneurship Academy. The five-day workshop is geared toward doctoral students, post-docs and research faculty in science and engineering.

It covers technology validation, market and financial strategies and communication skills. Attendees will have access to faculty, investors, industry executives and other entreprenuers to help understand a technology's journey from lab to market.

"The Academy's focus on commercializing green technology research will hopefully attract top researchers in this growing field," said Center Director Andy Hargadon. "The Academy will give them the tools they need to make a lasting environmental and economic impact with their research."

The program runs July 7 - July 11 at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village, Nevada. Those who are accepted will receive scholarships that cover the workshop’s tuition and lodging.

The Kauffman Foundation is the founding sponsor of this year’s program, followed by other sponsors that include Superfund Basic Research Program, the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy and Pacific Gas and Electric Co., among others.
