A Pacific Northwest green building group will add a nine-month certification course to the newly formed Cascadia Sustainability Academy.

The Cascadia Region Green Building Council will partner with the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program to offer a new course for professionals interested in sustainable design and construction.

More than 500 professionals have completed the nine-month certification course and exam currently offered in 10 locations in the U.S. and Canada. The number of school programs could double this year.

"As part of the new Academy, the SBA program will provide an enhanced comprehensive sustainable building curriculum to practicing professionals to give them the tools they need to make the built environment truly sustainable," said Cascadia CEO Jason F. McLennan. "It will also create an important link to active green building groups around the nation and eventually across the globe."

The Cascadia Sustainability Academy also offers a Green Broker Certification program and Living Building Leader program, which focuses on advanced training for those interested in designing for the Living Building Standard.
