WILMINGTON, -- DuPont is bringing facilities online throughout the country that will help refineries better control their sulfur emissions.

The projects are part of DuPont's Clean Technologies solutions aimed at developing technologies for clean air, water and fuel. The company has already fired up a facility in El Paso, Texas, and is working to bringing a second facility online in Linden, N.J.

Both plants are actually built on-site at the refiners' facilities. DuPont operates a third plan in Delaware City, Del.

Each facility reduces sulfur emissions by regenerating the sulfuric acid used in the alkylation process and converting the refinery gases to sulfur products. DuPont owns, builds and maintains each plant.

"Petroleum refiners are being challenged to handle higher sulfur crudes, reduce emissions in the refining process, and continue to expand production of alkylate to meet market demand for clean burning fuels," Gary W. Spitzer, vice president and general manager of DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise. "DuPont's Sulfuric Acid Regeneration-Sulfur Gas Recovery offering allows refiners to cost effectively meet these challenges with state-of-the-art technology and facilities, backed by DuPont expertise in safe and reliable operation."

DuPont partnered with STRATCO and BELCO to create DuPont Clean Technologies.
