OAKLAND, Calif. — a href="http://www.climateprotect.org/">The Alliance for Climate Protection is planning a $100 million-a-year marketing campaign over the next three years to further spread the word about climate change and get people to take action.

The organization will put outs ads, partner with other groups throughout the country and work with consumer product makers to give people information on what they can do to cut greenhouse gas emissions, USA Today reported.

By working with grassroots groups and businesses, the Alliance for Climate Protection aims to create new avenues to get green messages to people, either through ads or product packaging and websites. The organization has also launched a new website providing some steps to cutting emissions or encouraging the eco-friendly actions of others.

The marketing push is aimed at increasing the actions of the average person by heightening the fact that climate change is an urgent problem that deserves prompt attention. Although groups have been promoting eco-friendly actions and the effects of climate change for years, some have found certain approaches work better than others.

Some of the more effective ways to motivate people to take greener steps have been to show them people similar to them are taking eco-friendly actions, provide positive feedback and give examples of concrete actions that create results. People are also more likely to live greener if they understand the negative impact global warming will have on future generations or their children encourage them to make changes.
