SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of General Services has developed a directory of state-run buildings that have received or applied for LEED certification, or are undergoing energy efficiency retrofits.

The Green Building Directory uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping technology to allow users to search for buildings using a variety of criteria or view an interactive map of all projects.

"Governor Schwarzenegger has made the use of GIS technology a priority, recognizing the tremendous potential it has to serve Californians,” said Teri Takai, chief information officer for the state. “This new site is a terrific application that will help carryout the Governor's environmental goals, while at the same time providing a great way to keep up with the progress on this significant effort.”

A 2004 executive order says all new state construction projects must be built to LEED standards. The state's largest buildings, those over 50,000 square feet, are also seeking LEED certification. State agencies must also reduce energy use in state-owned buildings by 20 percent by 2015.
