Anheuser-Busch Cleans Up Its Fleet
Published June 08, 2008
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Anheuser-Busch has received funding to clean up the emissions from part of its fleet as it works on other cleaner trucking measures.
The company received a $150,000 grant from the U.S. EPA on behalf of the Northeast Diesel Collaborative to install advanced filtration devices.
Fifteen trucks from the company's Hunt's Point fleet, in the Bronx, will receive diesel multi-stage filter devices and closed crankcase systems. The multi-stage filters trap and reduce emissions by 70-80 percent, and the crankcase systems have been shown to prevent 100 percent of crankcase emissions.
The Hunt's Point Fleet includes about 75 trucks. Along with planning to fuel the fleet with biodiesel, Anheuser-Busch has started swapping out diesel engines from some trucks with compressed natural gas engines. The company is converting trucks manufactured between 2002 and 2005, and plans to switch over about 22 trucks by the end of 2009.
Anheuser-Busch is partnering with the EPA and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority on its truck improvement. The EPA operates National Clean Diesel Campaign to connect fleet operators, engine manufacturers and local government with companies that provide technology and resources for cleaning up diesel equipment.
