BANBURY, UK -- In an effort to reduce packaging and product waste in the UK, the nonprofit Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) is inviting proposals from partners within the retail sector and their supply chain for large-scale reusable packaging trials using innovative closed-loop systems.

In announcing the tender process, WRAP called for trials that demonstrate reduction of packaging or product waste, including food. Funding for as much as 50 percent of costs may be made available to projects that "offer radical improvements in resource efficiency" and would not meet commercial investment criteria without help from the organization, WRAP said.

The trials may involve business-to-business solutions within the retail supply chain or business-to-consumer solutions, according to WRAP. The organization said it would discuss potential proposals with prospective applicants as needed and that it also would help prospective applicants seeking project partners.

The deadline for proposals is 12:30 p.m. September 16.

WRAP is government funded and strives to help the UK meet its environmental targets by fostering efforts to increase recycling and efficient use of materials by businesses and consumers.
