Johnson Controls to Bring IBM Software to Its Data Center Management Practice

The company will integrate IBM's Tivoli monitoring software into its building management into JCI's building management system as a way of further improving energy efficiency in data centers.

Johnson Controls last week announced a new addition to its Metasys building management system, one that will allow it to make data centers more energy efficient.

The company will incorporate IBM's Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management Software into JCI's existing system, helping data center managers maximize the performance per watt of their data centers, reduce their overall power and cooling costs and implement power usage decisions in real time.

The software is a natural expansion for Johnson Controls, which specializes in facility management and has made major strides in making new and existing buildings more energy efficient. At a time when businesses of all types are finding themselves owning and operating data centers, JCI's partnership with IBM will allow the company to cover all aspects of business operations from a facility management standpoint.
