OAKLAND, Calif. — Mindware and Wyse Techonlogy last week announced a new partnership aimed at bringing green awareness to IT managers in the Middle East.

MIndware is one of the leading IT distributors in the region, and Wyse is a manufacturer of thin computing terminals; together the companies hope to take advantage of a recent rise in interest around all types of green business practices in the Middle East.

The key plank in their platform is to spread the word about the energy-saving benefits of thin computing in business operations. On its EarthSmart Computing home page, Wyse Technologies says that thin clients not only use less power, but consist of less materials that will need to be recycled at the end of life (although they are designed to be 90-99 percent recyclable), and they meet ISO 14001 certification standards and conform to RoHs and WEEE regulations.

"A big part of the solution to the problems of climate change and energy usage will be technological innovations, and as an environmentally-concerned corporate citizen with a dedicated focus on growing our business, we have identified the outstanding potential of Wyse Technologies' 'EarthSmart Computing' initiative in the region," Sanjeev Menon, Mindware's product manager for Wyse products, said in a statement.

The Middle East as a region has lately been stretching its green muscles. Abu Dhabi's Masdar City Initiative has been making waves for its ambitious goals of becoming the world's most sustainable city, and Middle Eastern countries and their neighbors in Europe alike are seeking to harness the region's abundant potential for solar energy generation.

With this in mind the companies behind the EarthSmart Computing Initiative hope to land on fertile ground as thinking around environmental sustainability takes root in the Middle East.
