ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Pulpwatch.org has launched, providing an interactive map rating pulp and paper mills around the world on their environmental and social records.

The website features a map utilizing GoogleMaps technology to point out and label mills based on how they stack up against the standards in the Common Vision for Transforming the Paper Industry developed by the Environmental Paper Network.

Each mill is given an overall rating and individual ratings related to sourcing from endangered forests, use of chlorine in bleaching technology, certification from the Forest Stewardship Council and if workers and communities are in conflict with mills.

Green ratings mean the mills meet the minimum standards in the Common Vision, yellow means they aren't in full compliance but have made progress, and red means they do not meet the standards.

User can browse the map or search by mill name, products or company. Pulpwatch.org was developed by the Borealis Centre for Environment and Trade Research in partnership with a variety of non-governmental organizations.
