EPA to Launch Web Portal to Green Resources for Retailers

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to launch a Web portal to information and resources about environmental compliance, pollution prevention and other green issues specific to retailers, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) said.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to launch a Web portal to information and resources about environmental compliance, pollution prevention and other green issues specific to retailers, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) said.

"Sustainability is a key issue and a top concern for RILA and our member companies," said Casey Chroust, RILA's senior vice president for retail operations. "This portal will serve as a clearinghouse for information to further advance the industry's efforts to apply sustainable practices."

The organization said it and others representing the retail industry have been working with the EPA for several months to create the portal, which is expected to launch later this year.

"We're pleased to be working with the retail sector to make this information easily accessible through a single Web portal," said Jim Edward, EPA's compliance assistance and sector programs division director.

RILA said the participation of its Sustainability Initiative, which was formed last year and includes association members and non-members, has been key to the collaboration with the EPA on the industry-specific project. The initiative seeks to help leading retailers pursue environmentally-conscious business practices and activities in addition to meeting environmental standards.
