BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Sam's Club will offer solar panels and an array of energy saving products at nine Southern California locations, where the company has created Home Efficiency Centers to focus customer attention on goods for greening their dwellings.

The solar power display is a centerpiece of the presentation and will feature kiosks -- shaped like a cross-section of a rooftop -- where information about solar energy, solar systems, discount offers will be available.

Sam's Club, the wholesale division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., is partnering with Borrego Solar Systems Inc., which designs and installs systems, and BP Solar, a leading provider of photovoltaic solar panels, on the project. According to Sam's Club, the partnership enables purchasers to receive a discount on their systems, resulting in an average of $500 in savings in addition to applicable federal, state and local rebates and tax credits.

"While homeowners and businesses continue to embrace solar energy at a tremendous rate, this growth is somehow restricted by the relatively limited number of consumers who are exposed to solar in their daily lives," said Aaron Hall, CEO of Borrego Solar Systems Inc. "By providing these informational kiosks in these regional locations, Sam's Club is demonstrating exceptional leadership in bringing solar energy to the masses."

Other products that are to be showcased in the new in-store centers include a line of Energy Star appliances, low-flow toilets, high-efficiency shower heads, compact fluorescent light bulbs and next-generation LED energy efficient lights for the home, the chain said.

The Sam's Club sites that will have Home Efficiency Centers are in Corona, Murrieta, Glendora, Ontario, La Habra, Chino, Long Beach, Fountain Valley and Torrance.

"We've got the best lineup of products to make a home more efficient and those looking to save a little green, or the planet, will appreciate our prices," said Paul Stone, a Sam's Club regional vice president. "We are optimistic we will be able to bring this concept to more of our clubs."
