After a request from a retailer, Danjim developed the bag, for individually packaged shirts, out of polyvinyl alcohol to replace plastic bags made of polypropylene, said Shameem Kazmi, Danjim's managing director.
Danjim has created two types of water-soluble bags. One dissolves in cold water, the other dissolves in hot water and can be created to dissolve anywhere between 5 and 65 degrees Celsius.
The bags starts to dissolve immediately upon impact with water, though only the parts touched by water will dissolve. Kazmi said that the cold water bags dissolve in about 10 minutes when left in water, and that the company provides instructions on the bags explaining proper disposal.
The company has so far shown the bags only to the retailer that requested them.
