The U.S. Green Building Council and Island Press have partnered to create GreenWorks, an online book club and resource that offers books on green building for industry professionals.
The site is to feature a monthly selection of books considered "the newest and the best on green building" by a panel of experts who evaluate them on behalf of the program, the USGBC said in announcing the new venture.
"From the array of books potentially of interest to USGBC members, those featured each month are evaluated by industry professionals and selected for their contribution of ideas and analysis of green building issues," the organization said.
The featured titles for October are "Emerald Architecture" by GreenSource magazine, "The Green Building Revolution" by Jerry Yudelson, the second edition of "Sustainable Construction" by Charles J. Kibert and "The Necessary Revolution: How Individuals and Organizations are Working Together to Created a Sustainable World" by Peter M. Senge with Bryan Smith, Nina Kruschwitz,
Joe Laur and Sara Schley.
"This book club is about starting a conversation," said USGBC Senior Vice President Peter Templeton in statement on October 2 for GreenWorks' launch. "USGBC members are full of ideas and solutions. The book club will offer professionals a place to connect with others in the field, share their thoughts on various books, ideas and authors, as well as learn more about all things green building."
Access to the site is free. USGBC members are eligible for discounts of as much as 40 percent per book as well as bulk purchase discounts. Professionals who browse the site are encouraged to suggest titles and authors for consideration. Recommendations may be e-mailed to [email protected].
