Philadelphia University’s Engineering and Design Institute and the Green Building Alliance have received a $1 million state grant to fund a third year of work by leading universities, green building advocates and tech experts who are charged with helping spur green construction and economic growth in Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Green Growth Partnership, based in Philadelphia, was established in 2006 with a $2 millon state grant and received $1.5 million the following year for its continuation.

The partnership’s role is to promote green building and the development of energy efficient building materials, products and technologies in order to stimulate growth in business, jobs and environmentally friendly construction.

The partnership told the Philadelphia Business Journal earlier this week that it expects to help some 175 Pennsylvania businesses, create 75 jobs and retain another 150 posts in the job force during the coming year.

In addition to the Engineering and Design Institute at Philadelphia University and the Green Building Alliance, which is based in Pittsburgh, the partners are Temple, Villanova, Carnegie Mellon and Pennsylvania State universities, the University of Pittsburgh, the Delaware Valley Green Building Council and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
