Nissan Takes Low-VOC Paint to the Aftermarket

Nissan has rolled out a couple water-based paints for aftermarket use in Japan, with more on the way.

Nissan Motor Co. has released water-based paints for use in Japan's automobile aftermarket.

The paints, carried under the Pitwork brand, are first being offered in two shades of silver, one of the most popular colors, according to Nissan. By April, more colors will be available.

Nissan's water-based paints contain half as many volatile organic compounds as comparable, conventional paints, and also emit fewer odors.

The auto company started using water-based paints in its own operations at its Kyushu Plant in 2006. Nissan introduced new paint technology last year that reduced carbon dioxide emissions and cut energy use and waste solventsin half.
