Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd., an integrated building analysis software firm headquartered in Glasgow, is expanding its North American unit in response to "significant growth" in the U.S. market, the company said.

IES announced the expansion yesterday along with the promotion of Kevin Settlemyre, who was named president of the IES North America, and the hiring of five people in the U.S. for the consultancy and training units of the business.

The demand for sustainable building design analysis tools and sustainability consulting is increasing, said the firm.

Allthough IES did not provide specifics, studies have said that green products and services, and the firms that provide them, are showing buoyancy despite the troubled economy. In the construction industry, studies say, green building is likely to be one of the few segments that will continue to show positive movement. Businesses that support eco-friendly building are responding with products and services that ratchet up efficiency and sustainability factors.

At IES, Settlemyre previously oversaw North American operations as an associate director. In his new role, he will be expected to strengthen what the company views as a bridge between architecture and engineering by fostering the use of performance analysis throughout the design process. He also is expected to further efforts to facilitate and develop net zero energy building in the context of the company's business.
