The Canadian government has committed more than $9 million over the coming years to establish GreenCentre Canada, which will bring a range of partners together to advance green chemistry research and implementation.

GreenCentre, to be located in Queen's University in Kingston, will help researchers and entrepreneurs commercialize products and innovations, provide training, establish chemical and manufacturing companies, and develop a community around green chemistry.

GreenCentre Canada will be one of the country's Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) and administered by the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE). The NCE initiative dates back to 1989 and develops different centers to bring together partners from the academic, private and public sectors.

The green chemistry center will tackle a number of issues, such as studying how to make catalysts that make chemical transformations more energy efficient and leave less waste.
