Cosmetic and personal care product maker Origins has launched a packaging recycling program, accepting tubes, bottles and more from any cosmetic brand.

The company's Return to Origins program started just yesterday, accepting a wide range of packaging at the company's 450-plus retail stores and department store counters.

All of the collected materials will either be recycled or used for energy recovery. The program is restricted only to primary packaging; no paper boxes or plastic wrapping will be taken. It also won't take sample or trial size packaging, applicators like sponges or tools like tweezers.

Return to Origins will, though, accept any glass and plastic jars, bottles, tubes, lipstick covers and caps. Aveda launched a similar recycling programs for caps last year, and takes in any type of plastic cap to be recycled into new packaging.

The company is holding kick-off events for the program on April 2, giving away full size items to a select number of people who are first to drop off packaging.

In April, Origins is also launching its Origins Earth Initiative, which starts off with the company pledging to plant a tree for every A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturizer With White Tea that is sells.
