A carbon calculator for British printers has been released, giving companies the ability to figure out emissions related to print sites and individual print contracts.

Developed by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) and The CarbonNeutral Company, the BPIF Carbon Calculator is aimed at printers of all types, including packaging printers.

The calculator looks at emissions from paper manufacturing; paper distribution; energy, vehicles and other variables at print sites, waste management and retail. It is exclusive to members of the BPIF and free for BPIF's Platinum members.

Companies will end up with enough emissions information to show overall emissions from their operations as well as show individual clients what the footprint of their products will be.

BPIF environmental consultants will guide users through the calculator and help them with advice on how to reduce emissions. For companies that want to reduce emissions as far as possible, they'll be referred to The CarbonNeutral Company for information on offset programs and CarbonNeutral certification.
