WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) latest list of top green energy buyers, Intel and PepsiCo maintain their top two spots as more companies make their way on the list and move up its ranks.

The EPA lists the top 50 companies participating in its Green Power Partnership program based on how much green energy they buy. The list also shows what percentage of their total electricity purchase is green energy, who their providers are and what types of power they purchase.

Intel holds its number one spot with purchases of more than 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power per year, all of which is wind power. PepsiCo is a close second with 1.144 billion kWh of green power per year from various sources.

Kohl's took the number three spot on this list by more than doubling its green power purchase to 600 billion kWh from biogas, biomass, small hydro, solar and wind.

The other top 10 green power buyers are Dell, Whole Foods Market, Pepsi Bottling Group, Johnson & Johnson, U.S. Air Force, Cisco Systems and the city of Houston.

Companies that made it into the top 50 list for the first time include Wal-Mart (#15), Dannon (# 33), Sony DADC (#40) and Motorola (#44).

In total, the top 50 companies are buying more than 11 billion kWh of green power annually, a sum that represent more than 70 percent of all the purchasing commitments made by the more than 1,000 partner organizations involved in the Green Power Partnership.
