ALBANY, N.Y. — Sears Holdings will start using the WERCSmart software program to better understand and access information about chemicals and hazardous materials in products along with information on how to dispose of certain products.

The WERCSmart program is offered by The Wercs, a provider of chemical compliance, assessment and hazard communication software and services.

WERCSmart provides information about products, from suppliers, with details on the chemicals inside products, compliance data, and handling information.

Aerosols, paints and pesticides can contain hazardous materials, and when they are damaged, defective, obsolete or need to be tossed for some other reason, they need to be handled and disposed of in certain ways.

Sears Holding will add the program to its disposal practices throughout its Sears and Kmart locations.
