Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Van Jones and Majora Carter are hard acts to follow, but the U.S. Green Building Council wants to top its Greenbuild attendance record again this year — and Sheryl Crow has promised to help them.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Van Jones and Majora Carter are hard acts to follow, but the U.S. Green Building Council wants to top its Greenbuild attendance record again this year -- and Sheryl Crow has promised to help them.

The nine-time Grammy winner and environmental advocate has been booked to sing at the opening ceremonies of the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, which runs November 11 to 13 in Phoenix, Ariz., the USGBC told its members on Tuesday and announced widely today.

"Beyond her music, Sheryl Crow's informed and effective advocacy made her the natural choice to help us open Greenbuild in a new and powerful way," USGBC President, CEO & Founding Chair Rick Fedrizzi said in the announcement.

The speakers and other major participants in the Greenbuild opening ceremonies are still to be announced. The venue for the curtain-raiser is Chase Field, the ballpark that's home to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

More than 28,000 people attended the conference last year in Boston. More information on the conference this year is available at http://www.greenbuildexpo.org/.
