Lenovo's New Monitors Bring Green Design to the Desktop

A new line of monitors from Lenovo -- five in the ThinkVision line -- bring energy efficiency, recycled materials and reduced toxics to workplaces, while also earning the requisite environmental certifications.

All five monitors have surpassed the U.S. EPA's Energy Star 5.0 certification levels, earned EPEAT Gold certification, and the company's L2251x monitor has earned the first stamp in the new green IT certification from TCO, TCO Certified Edge.

The L2251x uses just 21 watts of power during operation, less than half of the average 49 watts use by other monitors in its class. The monitor also comes with an ambient light and proximity sensor to bring power consumption down even further by putting the display to sleep when the user leaves the workstation.

The monitor was designed to be mercury-free and low-halogen, both chemicals of concern for the complications they bring to recycling end-of-life and broken units. Lenovo built the monitor's chassis using 65 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content plastics and no virgin plastics. The company says this is the highest amount of PCR content in any EPEAT-certified monitor.

Full details about the new monitors are online at lenovo.com.
