The Forest Stewardship Council has awarded chain-of-custody certifications to RedBuilt engineered wood products that the company manufactures at its plants in Chino, Calif., and Stayton, Ore.

RedBuilt FSC-certified products now include their open-web truss line of products called Red-L, Red-W, Red-S, Red-M and Red-H. Examples of open-web truss are pictured above and below.

Open-web trusses, which are designed and built specifically for each job, are used in commercial and light industrial building projects. They are considered efficient and economical solutions for floors and roofs.

Other RedBuilt products with FSC certification include Red-I joists, RedLam Laminated Veneer Lumber and sourced glulam beams.

The council's accredited third-party certifiers evaluate forest management activities and track forest products.

RedBuilt expects to extend the chain-of-custody certifcation to its plant in Delaware, Ohio, in January.

The validation enables customers who use the FSC-certified products to earn points toward green building certification based on the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, says Jeff Jack, RedBuilt's manufacturing technical director.

The materials certification from the FSC also is recognized by the Green Globes building rating system.

RedBuilt products contain no urea formaldehyde, and the steel the company uses for its open-web trusses and joist hangers include recycled content, according to Jack.
