Rosemead, CA — Southern California Edison is giving $1 million to 10 colleges to support solar power, alternative fuel and other green job education and training.

The company's Green Jobs Education Initiative is giving $100,000 to each of the following California community colleges:

  • Cerritos College, Norwalk
  • Cerro Coso Community College, Ridgecrest
  • El Camino College, Torrance
  • Golden West College, Huntington Beach
  • Long Beach City College, Long Beach
  • Los Angeles Southwest College, Los Angeles
  • Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, Los Angeles
  • Rio Hondo College, Whittier
  • San Bernardino Valley College, San Bernardino
  • Ventura College, Ventura


The funds will provide scholarships ($1,000 per year for at least two years) for students with financial need that are in green job workforce preparation, studying topics like solar panel installation, water and wastewater management, transportation and alternative fuels, biofuel production and farming, environmental compliance or sustainability planning.

The colleges will be able to invest the money in the California Community College Scholarship Endowment to receive an additional $50,000 match from The Bernard Osher Foundation.
