UPS Rocks Fuel Efficiency with Live Nation Partnership

United Parcel Service is taking what it's learned about transportation efficiency in its own operations and offering that knowledge to bands, singers and other performers.

Though a new partnership with Live Nation Entertainment, UPS will help performing artists reduce emissions related to tours and offset Live Nation's shipping-related emissions.

For artists that sign up for the emissions reduction service, UPS, which would provide some or all of their tour transportation, will measure the artist's transportation carbon footprint, develop a plan for reducing emissions, and then purchase and retire certified carbon offsets for the remainder of emissions. The offsets will ultimately be paid for by the artists.

Live Nation will also purchase carbon offsets equivalent to the emissions related to mailing tickets purchased by concert attendees as well as from mailing merchandise bought from the Live Nation.

The company will buy offsets through UPS, which says it will purchase certified offsets through a number of sources: The Gold Standard, Voluntary Carbon Standard, Climate Action Reserve, European Union Allowances and Certified Emission Reduction.

As part of the partnership, UPS has signed on to be Live Nation's exclusive global package, shipping and logistics sponsor, and will be an official sustainability partner with the company. UPS will be promoted through signs in venues, VIP tickets, backstage areas and online.
