Taking Care of Business

By Joel Makower

The year — and the decade — are quickly coming to a close. And what a year it's been! The economy took a dive, as did the global climate talks. Budgets froze (or melted away). Consumers hunkered down, as did most companies.

And yet it was a banner year for green business. We'll assess things in detail in our forthcoming State of Green Business Report, and at the accompanying State of Green Business Forums. Suffice to say, there was plenty to write about.

We've loved doing that over the past year, in the form of more than 2,300 original news stories and blog posts, written by our hardworking staff writers and editors as well as nearly 300 other contributors, from CEOs to newly minted MBAs to chief sustainability officers at some of the world's largest companies. (You can find the complete chronological list of 2009 stories here.) We pride ourselves in bringing you that cacophony of voices — views from the corporate trenches, analyses of trends and events, provocative perspectives from around the world. Thanks to all of you who have contributed.

This week, we've asked some of you to weigh in on the exciting developments in your companies over the year ahead. If this sampling is any indication, 2010 promises to bring another steady drumbeat of corporate commitments, achievements, and launches. We promise to bring it all to you, along with the balanced perspective and analysis you deserve.

My colleagues and I are excited about the coming year — our 10th! Watch for new products, services, and announcements from us, too.

On behalf of my colleagues at Greener World Media, here's hoping that 2010 brings peace, well-being, and success to you and yours.
