Taking Care of Business

By Joel Makower

Happy twenty-ten! I hope the new year finds you rested and re-energized for all that you do.

That's certainly the case with my colleagues and I at GreenBiz.com. We've closed out a remarkable year, filled with new products, staff, contributors, sponsors, and partners. And we're looking to do the same in 2010.

First and foremost are our State of Green Business Forums, in San Francisco on February 4, and Chicago on February 9. As you'll see from their respective websites, both events are shaping up to meet or exceed the quality of last year's acclaimed event. We have speakers confirmed from Autodesk, Best Buy, eBay, Ecosecurities, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, PG&E, SAP, Steelcase, The Climate Group, UL Environment, UPS, Yahoo, and others. We've added more speakers, more sessions, more networking time, and a new online platform that allows attendees and speakers to "meet" and interact before and after the events.

We're also excited about our GreenBiz Executive Network, now in its second year. Under the leadership of John Davies, vice president of GreenBiz Intelligence, the peer-to-peer learning group has grown into a dynamic group of senior sustainability leaders from more than two dozen large companies, and growing. They meet in person twice yearly (next meeting is in March in Memphis) to share insights, experiences, tools, and research. The conversations continue during quarterly conference calls and individual interactions.

The GreenBiz Intelligence Panel, also headed up by John, will also be featured during 2010. The panel, which includes more than 2,500 individuals across the full spectrum of company sizes and sectors, represents a cornerstone of our brain trust, helping us tap into green business trends and the evolving mindset of you and your colleagues. During the coming year, we'll be sharing more of what we're learning from that group.

And there's more to come. This year, we'll be growing still: New events, products, services, online features. You'll be hearing more about them in the coming weeks and months.

One more thing we'll be talking about this year is GreenBiz.com's 10th anniversary, which we're celebrating in 2010. We'll be offering a range of editorial and other features centered around our theme: "The Power of 10."

I could go on, but you've got an in-box to clear, so I'll leave you with the stories below, some of which look back at the year just passed -- or, in one case, the decade. There's lots to think about as you -- and we -- look forward to all that's yet to come.
