Taking Care of Business

By Joel Makower

These days it seems like just about everyone is either an environmental consultant or is looking for one. Based on the calls and emails I get, there's a marketplace mismatch: nearly as many companies trying to find help as there are service providers trying to find clients. That's a good thing, of course -- signs of a robust marketplace in the making. But did I mention that it's a mismatch?

We've just soft-launched a new feature on GreenBiz.com to ease the inefficiency: our Professional Services Directory, designed to help green consultants and other B-to-B service providers gain exposure before our targeted and highly-qualified audience.

If you have a service to offer, listing your company will not only give great exposure, but also provide trackable results and other features.

If you're a company seeking help, this is a one-stop resource to gain access to dozens of service providers. More than 70 firms have already listed themselves.

The Professional Services Directory is currently free for businesses to list. It will become a paid service later this fall, with premium listings averaging approximately $20/month. (It will be free to users seeking a consultant.) As an incentive to encourage you to list your business, you'll get an additional 90 days free once we convert to a paid service.

Listing is easy. Simply click on the "Add Your Listing" button here.

The many bottom lines of "green": Our webcast series continues -- this week with an oversubscribed panel on green ratings, rankings, and certifications (there may be a few seats left). Coming up next week: a conversation on The Triple Bottom Line of "Green," with David Gottfried, noted author and founding president of the U.S. Green Building Council, on the multiple horizontal levels of "green" -- green products, green practices, green spaces, green homes, etc. He'll highlight innovative green practices for businesses, a new blueprint to turn sustainability into action inside companies, and how implementing green practices and LEED certification can impact your bottom line.

Gottfried will be "in conversation" with Mike Kapalko, Environmental & Tork Services Manager at SCA Tissue North America. Kapalko, for his part, will unveil as-yet-unpublished research on how "green" combines with hygiene, health, and image to provide bottom-line benefits and help with customer retention and loyalty. The free webcast is October 21 at 1 pm ET/10 am PT. Reservations are required, so book now.
