By Joel Makower, Chairman & Executive Editor

On Wednesday, July 18, we'll be holding another in our ongoing series of VERGE events -- this one a half-day virtual conference titled Cities 2.0.

VERGE events, as you likely know, focus on the convergence of energy, information, building, and transportation technologies, and the opportunities they bring to business and sustainability. This convergence is place-based -- it happens in it to unfold. They reason: cities combine progressive local leadership with a critical mass of people, devices, buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure -- and they have long been social and technology innovation laboratories.

On July 18, you'll hear from the chief innovation officers of two U.S. cities -- Philadelphia and San Francisco -- about their efforts to leverage a growing stream of data into enhanced services for businesses and citizens, and about their efforts to harness the VERGE convergence to reduce congestion and other environmental problems while unleashing a wealth of innovations.

You'll also hear from General Motors and the Rocky Mountain Institute about stakeholder partnerships that are enabling citywide EV charging partnerships, as well as from IBM, Pike Research, and others. It promises to be a lively and enlightening few hours.

Registration is free, but space is limited. I hope you'll be able to join us.

The Route to Software Success: Our next webcast, on July 12, focuses on the top considerations you need to know when choosing and using EHS, carbon- and water-tracking software for your company. Join me in conversation with Paul Carpenter of ArcelorMittal, Harold Williams of Fujifilm, and James Jensen of Enviance, to learn the ins and outs of working with your internal team as well as external vendors to put the right solution to work for your company. The webcast is free; registration required.
