The Green IT Perspective

By Matthew Wheeland

The past week has marked the launch of the third annual State of Green Business report, our in-depth look at the actual impacts that companies are having on 20 different areas of business activity.

The IT-related news from this year's report is a mixed bag: While the growth of certified green electronics from Energy Star and EPEAT marks a promising trend, we're still failing to recycle a significant chunk of all the old electronics we're discarding.

You can read our coverage of IT issues from this year's report in "IT Aims to Save the World," and on a more green IT 2.0 front, in "Energy Efficiency Gains Horsepower." And be sure to read my coverage of the IT-centric panel at the State of Green Business Forum, and we've collected a handful of IT tools from panelists at the event.

Speaking of Energy Star, according to EPA officials, the new certification for data centers may launch as early as June. The certification will look largely at PUE as a measure of energy efficiency, but other factors will be included as well to round the certification out.
